Periorbital Cellulitus
About a month ago Oliver took a fall down our deck stairs. In the process he knocked his front two teeth lose and broke one right down the middle. Luckily Dr. Badger was kind enough to take part of his Saturday to open up his office so we could get our little man in. He did a filling on the broken tooth and said that the teeth should harden up in just a couple days, he could not tell us for sure if the teeth would end up dying or not so we just decided to play it by ear. about a month later Without us knowing things took a turn for the worst and the right side of Oliver's face began to swell. We took him to our Doctor and he just told us he had an ear infection and he was not concerned about the swelling, but when his gums exploded old blood and he progressively began to get worse we went for a second opinion. So back to Badgers office we went. Needless to say Oliver got his tooth pulled, but just the one for now. So a day or two has passed sense he got his tooth pulled and the swelling did not get any better so we decided I would go ahead and switch doctors and start going to Dr. Barela, being as our old doctor really didn't seem to give a hoot about our kids so we moved on to a Pediatrician instead of a family practitioner. Dr. Barela was VERY concerned and diagnosed Oliver with Periorbital cellulitus, which was caused by the infected teeth. The Antibiotics we were giving him were not working so back to Dr. Barela. Again he was not happy about his face and decided that I needed to bring him in every day for a shot of strong Antibiotics and If that did not work we would be checking him in to the hospital. Today however we made progress, he seemed to think his eye got better over the last couple of days so he said I could just continue bringing him in to the office until it cleared up. Oliver is not out of the woods yet but, This infection is not to be taken lightly, it can cause brain damage or even death when not taken care of properly. Lucky for us things are looking up and we are hoping for the best. Regardless if he looks a tad like a hobo or slightly on the verge of becoming a jack-o-lantern we love him very much and could not possibly imagine him not being a part of this family. He has such a great personality and everyone in this family thrives on that.
